$3,000 To Pay Your Heating Bills and Weatherize Your Home

Two other grant programs for home improvement are the Weatherization Program and the Energy Assistance Program. The Weatherization Program helps to do some household repairs that will make your home more energy efficient. Linda Wildey stated that there is currently a list of people waiting for services, but they are put in order of need. Maximum household income is $14,925 per year, although they take into consideration medical expenses. The Energy Assistance Program will begin again in November and offers help with large heating bills. Emergency Money To Pay Rent and Utility Bills

The City of Leavenworth, Kansas contracts with Catholic Community Services (CCS) to offer an Emergency Housing Assistance program to families and individuals in need. The program provides counseling and valuable referrals to low-income city residents who are experiencing a housing emergency. $5,000,000 to Build or Fix Up an Apartment Building

Called Mortgage Insurance for the Purchase or Refinancing of Existing Multifamily Housing Projects and referred to as Program #14.155 in the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance, this program provides money for existing multifamily housing projects, whether conventionally financed or subject to federally insured mortgages at the time of application for mortgage insurance. Only projects not requiring substantial rehabilitation are acceptable under this section. The estimated cost of required repairs may not exceed 15 percent of the estimated value after repairs or $6,500 per unit adjusted by a high cost factor, whichever is greater and may not involve the replacement of more than one major system. The program has statutory per unit mortgage limits which vary according to the size of the unit, the type of structure, and the location of the project. There are also loan-to- value and debt service limitations. Prevailing wage requirements under the Davis-Bacon Act do not apply to this program. Grants To Pay For A Down Payment

on a home are available through a non-profit organization called AmeriDream, Inc. It's a little complicated, but my understanding is that to get government money to buy a home, the seller cannot give you a down payment to help you buy the home. But they can give the money to a non-profit, who in turn can give you the money. Anyway, the deal can get done and you don't need to put up money.

The Minor Rehabilitation and Home Security Program sponsored by San Diego County's Housing and Community Development Department (HCD) assists homeowners with home rehabilitation, minor repairs, maintenance, and security issues. Eligible repairs include fixing broken windows, doors, window screens, sliding glass door screens, and/or fence and gate repairs; minor plumbing and electrical repairs; yard clean-up; painting; and the installation of wheel chair ramps.
